In the vampire community, there are many terms that have developed or merged from familiar occultic terminology. Some of the terms presented here on Aquilus are specific to a particular order, while others are in general usage throughout the vampire community. Please acknowledge that these terms, although presented here, do not necessarily reflect those opinions/beliefs of Aquilus Dot Net or it's members. It is made available for informational purposes and should be viewed only as such. This is by no means a definitive Lexicon of vampire speech, it is only one perspective and relates to the individuals who have contributed the terms. | |

| Term | Definition |
| Beacon Author: Larae | A particular energy signature given off by Awakened individuals or those who verge upon Awakening. The Beacon is typically strongest in people who are right on the edge of Awakening and generally draws other Awakened to them so they can assist with this process. All Awakened seem to give off a Beacon of one form or another, although the strength varies from person to person and the effect can be shielded or enhanced through the conscious act of Will. |
| Beast, The Author: Larae | The primal, instinctive, animalistic, bestial nature of a frustrated or desperate vampire, where he or she gets really evil-minded and aggressive and wants to just go berzerk, rip people and things apart for the pure *fun* of it, and feed violently. It is destructive and cold, and if you do not control it, then you will be under its control. This is different from just *vamping out* but that is when it is most likely to manifest. |
| Becoming Author: Larae | A process akin to awakening; it is the actual embrace or acceptance of one`s vampyric nature. Many individuals awaken to their true nature, only to end up hiding from it for the rest of their lives. The process of Becoming is often marked with a rite of passage, such as an exchange of energy or blood with a mentor or undergoing a ritual of death and rebirth. See also Awakening and Turning. |
| Between Author: Larae | The state between life and rebirth, or the level of reality where many entities reside while in this state. The term *the Between* is inspired by the Tibetan word bardo, which means *gap* and refers to the period of time immediately after death and prior to the next incarnation. |
| Bilocation Author: Larae | A technique, often confused with astral projection, by which the consciousness and perceptions are split between two or more locations. In bilocation, some portion of the consciousness remains with the physical body, allowing this body to remain active and aware, while a subtle projection is also extended to another location. The bilocator is able to perceive and interact in both aspects at once. |
| Black Swan Author: Larae | Those who enjoy the vampyre aesthetic but are not posers, nor are they vampyres. They are often donors, friends, companions, lovers, dayside family or those of other subcultures who usually understand, appreciate and respect the vampyre lifestyle. * Term exclusive to OSV. |
| Black Veil, The Author: Larae | A code of vampire ethics and common sense widely accepted by the vampire subculture. See Real Vampires for full article. |
| Blood and Roses Author: Larae | The OSV wedding ritual. * Term exclusive to OSV. |
| Blood Bond Author: Larae | 1.) A strong, sometimes undesired, bond or attraction which can develop in a donor towards the vampire s/he is feeding; this bond can be a mutual thing between both the vampire and his/her donor, but often is felt only by the donor. 2.) A rite, ritual or ceremony marking a commitment to a coven or an individual. It is also a term to reflect a vampire/vampyre marriage. |
| Blood Doll Author: Larae | An individual who donates blood to vampires in hopes of having erotic desires fulfilled by being fed upon. |
| Blood Drinker Author: Larae | An individual who drinks blood, regardless of motivation. |
| Blood Junkie Author: Larae | A derogatory term for someone who experiences the physical need to consume blood. Particularly refers to a sanguine vamp that has no control over their thirst and feeds indiscriminately. |
| Blood Play Author: Larae | The act of using blood in a sexual or fetish situations for pleasure and eroticism. |
| Blood-Bars Author: Larae | Underground Vampire havens, which have a members-only and very secretive policy, being only open to certain members of the vampiric community. It is said they serve stored blood and/or have willing donors who provide blood. |
| Blood-Fetishist Author: Larae | Someone who is erotically attracted to the sight, taste or smell of blood; they generally have no physical need to consume it, and will usually be happy with small amounts (see also, haematophilia, haematomania, and haematodipsia). Blood-fetishism is often accompanied by other sexual fetishes, including sadism and masochism, and the blood is usually taken during sexual or fetish play, as in a bondage or domination situation. |
| Bloodist Author: Larae | Someone who is erotically attracted to the sight, taste or smell of blood; or the process in which it is extracted. Other sexual fetishes, including sadism and masochism, often accompany blood-fetishism. Blood-fetishists generally have no physical need to consume blood. The blood is usually drawn during sexual or fetish-play, as in a bondage or domination situation. |
| Bloodletting Author: Larae | The physical act of cutting or piercing the flesh in order to extract blood. This is commonly used for blood-play, fetishism and feeding. |
