POLICE IN Mexico last week arrested two men who confessed to brutally killing a man who earned a living from witchcraft.
Pedro Nunez Alvarez, 24, and Gustavo Perez Nunez, 19, told police they killed 28-year-old Lucas Dominguez because he had put an ‘evil eye’ on one of their relatives.

The two men, and a third suspect who is on the run, stabbed Dominguez seven times, crushed his skull with a rock and tried to burn his body.

According to the police, they blamed Dominguez for the suicide of Nunez Alvarez's father.

The men, who are related, claim they acted partly in self-defence because they feared Dominguez could cast a similar spell on them, officials said.

If I were the law officials in this case, I would investigate the victim they killed, look into their background, talk to their family, and FIGURE out if there is any bit of truth that the person who got killed was a "witch."..or look into the likelihood of this even happening.  This is ridiculous.

I sound stupid when saying this, but it would be like someone trying to kill me because I was apparently a vegetarian who 'claimed' membership to the ALF (which is not true [well, except the vegetarian part], but anyway).  So, I would make sure -all- facts in this case are as straight as an arrow.

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see what the court decides, and if they will even have details on the case and the arguments of both sides.

Sincerely,

Don't underestimate the fear in other cultures. I know in Mexico it is so ingrained that it is a very difficult thing to overcome.
You have Curanderas (sp?) who are healers and herbalists, and Brujas which are the "bad witches" or sorcerers. It is the Bruja that terrifies them...and I mean terrifies.
Needless to say, when I lived there I was extremely careful. No one knew anything about my beliefs or about my vampirism.  I knew I might just disappear if they did.

Not to mention 80 percent of the cops there are corrupt or on the take.  I'm more apt to believe that the poor fellow was killed because he wouldn't pay his safety fee.

They do feel very strongly about what they call "Brujas'.  It is really sad if you ask me.  It is like me being killed because I told my co worker they will fall down the stairs and later they do.  Doesn't mean I really cast a spell for it.  It more in peoples minds then anything else.  When you feel so much into something you get scared and things like this happen.  Again its very sad that people don't know how to deal with things.

People fear what they do not understand.  It's been like that since the dawn of man.  What is unfortunate, is that in today's day and age, people cannot get their tiny narrow minded brains out of neutral and educated themselves to other cultures, religions, new possibilities and ideals.

Is it just me, or is there a trend here. Why is it always Mexico? What about all those other countries with actual tribes that have Witch doctors and Shaman? You rarely hear anything about them.

It's not always Mexico. This is what the second news article on Mexico? Most of it has been Africa or what is considered third world countries and a lot of the killings have taken place in villages or small towns.
I posted about Mexico because it's very close to 'home' and there's this fear, that should have died out years and years ago. Many believe we will never see this type of fear here in the States or Canada, I believe we will and we all need to be prepared. There's fanatical people all over the world. And fear and ignorance breeds problems like this.

I've seen some fear associated with "alternative" religions but not to the points of murder.

I know of people who have been attacked for being vampire or pagan...in California.
Some friends and I had a sweat lodge in a rural area of Michigan. Wherever a Lakota Spirit Interpreter friend came to town he would run sweat lodges for us.
We and the lodge itself. They also planted a very large cross in the middle of it all.
The police were called and they couldn't have cared less.

Humans are closer to being uncivilized than most would like to believe. Especially when their is fear involved.

When you think about it from a psychological perspective, what happens when we get scared?  Our body turns to the fight or flight response.  Due to the fact that as humans, especially the male gender, we don't want to admit that something scares us the default is fight.  In addition it has been proven that anger is a predominant emotion in over 60 percent of males especially those that have had any form of traumatic stress.  Anger then becomes instantanious, blocking out all other emotions or feelings leading to the anger or any rational thinking.  No I'm not condoning anything here and stuff like this peeves me off as much as the next.
