And people wonder why we have such strict rules on this site and why they are heavily enforced. Here's one reason right here:

Court told vampire website led to rape, whipping

A man is on trial accused of whipping, biting and raping an underage girl he met via a website.

But the man's defence counsel has suggested to the District Court in Adelaide that the girl told the man she was older and encouraged the assault.

The website vampirefreaks.com is largely aimed at young adults who are into gothic culture.

The court heard that Warwick Acott, then 34, chatted on the site in 2004 to a 13-year-old girl, under the name 'Wozza'.

The girl told the court that the pair communicated over three years and Acott frequently mentioned sex.

"It was mostly just about his fetishes. He was into violent sex and hurting other people. I didn't take any notice of it," she told the judge.

The victim says Acott kissed and groped her when they first met face-to-face at a city bus stop in Adelaide.

The prosecution said in June 2006 Acott made his fantasies a reality, forcing his way into the teenager's house and raping and whipping her.

The court heard the victim suffers from Asperger syndrome which made it hard for her to interpret others' intentions.

"I felt disgusting. I felt sick. I felt like I should have known better," she told the hearing.

Acott's lawyer suggested the girl told the accused she was 19, asked him to buy her the whip and requested that he assault her, allegations the girl denies.

The case continues.

That is sick. And a very good reason why this site is run the way it is.

Ahh...good old vampirefreaks.com.

One reason I'm here is that we have rules and enforce them.

Ugh...this is disgusting.  And yes, this is exactly why I hang around Darkness Embraced and Aquilus.  That and Melissa and Larae have not gotten tired of me yet.  :-D

The rules here are actually not that bad, to be honest.  Every single member I conversed from these sites have said only positive things about the rules and how warm of a community they were part of.  All they say is to play nice, do not exploit others, show an attempt at basic grammar, and do not screw around in chat rooms; that is all they say in a nut shell.  There really is not many rules, really.  The rules all simply expand on the concept of showing respect, having common sense, and not being an utterly complete bigot (forgive my brutally blunt honesty, but it is how a lot of people feel without my diplomatic touch).

Suffice to say, I feel for the victim.  I really do.  It is one thing to deal with a harmless pervert who just talks about it, it is another thing to see the person disregard someone's dignity to take out their desires.  And, this case is exactly why I take someone with me when I meet someone from the first time from the internet.  It will not put me in a position where I cannot evaluate the person safely and get a feel of their personality and possible motivations.

Sincerely,

Out of a legal point of view, I must say the defense has no real leg to stand on.

Even if it is shown the victim told the accused she was 19, and to buy a whip and assault her, the moment he set foot in her house and she said no, as she shows this way it is non-consensual, it turned into rape and (sexual) battery/assault.

Kind regards,
Wilhelm

Especially if she has a syndrome which makes it difficult to make accurate judgments.

Very good point, Poppy. So the accused is doomed either way.

I hope he makes many "friends" in jail.

I actually did some thinking on this article for a several days.

My only gripe about it is not necessarily the law aspect (for once, lol!), per se, but I am not really sure if the journalist should have even mentioned the mental disorder.  Of course, I do not know.  I sound anal when saying this, but I think the journalist would have done well to at least clarify if the victim gave permission to have that part of her exposed, if she did allow it (or not mention it at all).  So I think I just feel it was a little unprofessional for them to just flat-out mention it, I guess...  Maybe I am thinking too much on the issue.  It also seemed irrelevant because even with accurate judgment, such predators can easily manipulate others through the web, where nonverbal cues are impossible to pick up.  I suppose journalists do not respect confidentiality so much anymore...

I guess I also have been in the counseling services in campus for too long.    I just know that if I even mentioned knowing a client had a mental disorder without their direct, written permission, I would get busted. Sometimes that kind of thing is a warrant to get arrested and/or fined.  Again, maybe the media is allowed to get away with this, professionalism or none.

But otherwise, I am with everyone else here.  I hope this predator gets locked up.  Their actions do not help with dispelling people's prejudices of the real life vampire culture.

Sincerely,

Disgusting!  This is not a person, but a predator.  In my opinion he should be culled from society.
