Kurt Cobain's ashes stolen - report

The ashes of dead rock star Kurt Cobain have reportedly been stolen.

British tabloid News of the World reported Cobain's widow Courtney Love was "suicidal" after finding the Nirvana's front man's remains missing from her Hollywood home.

Love kept the ashes in a pink teddy-bear-shaped bag along with a lock of his hair, News of the World reported. Thousands of dollars worth of clothes and jewelry were also taken in the burglary.

"They were all I had left of my husband," Love said. "I used to take them everywhere with me just so I could feel Kurt was still with me."

"I can't believe anyone would take Kurt's ashes from me. I find it disgusting and right now I'm suicidal.

"If I don't get them back I don't know what I'll do. Now it feels like I have lost him all over again."

Nirvana were one of the world's biggest bands in the 1990s and the leaders of the grunge movement until Cobain shot himself in April, 1994, while high on heroin.

The band, also comprised of Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, have sold 62 million record worldwide.


I don't get how people could be so horrible....

This may upset people with my comments I'm gonna make on this post and I don't mean to. But I'm kinda doubting that there was a break in at the house and his ashes were stolen, due to Courtney Love's umm..shall we say, lifestyle. If there's an actual report from a more "respectable" newspaper, I'd be more likely to believe it also. But, from past news and interviews I've seen with Courtney Love, well she's really a strung out person and it wouldn't be far fetched to say, she could have possibly needed a fix and was in a desperate situation and sold some stuff to get her fix and then once she got out of her stupor, she realized what she had done and reported a break in.

I'm sorry, If I offended someone with my comments, but when I read this, it's what immediately came to mind. If this true, it's definitely sad that an individual would steal someone's remains, that definitely is sick. And if it's how I expect, I'm not surprised.

Frankly, the same thing crossed my mind. Just like I have doubts about how he died.
We may never know for sure what really happened in either case.
I just don't really trust Courtney I guess. *shrugs*

I agree about Courtney she has her "problems". But if someone did steal his remains it really does rip my gut out because he was a great man set aside his drug addiction.

I'm surprised someone would take them, he's such a rock legend that I thought even the most cold of criminals would respect his alter so to speak.. Horrible to think that not even ones ashes are safe from the hands of theft.

I agree with Melissa here. I read about it in the paper a few months ago. Right after the article, I read the opinion they slipped in, on how they believed Courtney Love was probably on a binge or going through withdrawls and had no money, so she traded the ashes, then realized what she did was bad.

I understand that people have their opinions on Courtney, believe me I do as well.

But I just do not believe that she would not trade those ashes in for a fix.. she has slept with them ever sense he has passed. The whole story is quite the mind bender.
