I used to think so. I hate change, I like to be secure and safe in my stagnation. lol Even if it the situation / stagnation that is making me uncomfortable.

The other day someone I spoke with said the most profound thing. They said :

"Change itself is not painful, it's my resistance to change that makes it painful. "

Wow. I thought about that deeply for a while and even felt that it was something I wanted to remember.

Yes that is it. Surrendering to change is not easy for me, I do resist, I do rebel . "Everything I let go of had claw marks in it" lol Another saying I stole. Smiley

Why should it be difficult to let go of things that are harming you?  So much so that we'd be willing to let in more pain?

It's human nature to stay with what we know. Even if it is harmful to us. People fear change. They fear the unknown. But change is part of life. We are in a constant state of change. You have a wise friend, you should definitely listen to him/her.

With pain coming at all humans from every direction in this million mile an hour rat race we call life, why shouldn't change take it's rightful place on the unending list of things that are painful?

I've heard it said that pain is the craft entering the student, but I don't believe all change is good. Not all movement is forward.

I definitely agree with both of you, on this.
There's so many points of view that you can take on this subject, but in the end its going to depend on your own personal view of change, that will determine how change will affect you.

I don't think just for the sake of change is always a good thing. And I'm not talking hairstyles or wardrobe. I'm talking like changing religious paths just because you want to. And not because your actual beliefs have changed. I do feel that necessary change, although sometimes painful is good in the end.

People do fear change.  But change is good, we all need change.  Plus you never know if its better for you unless you try.  And if the change is not a good one, you can always make a new change.  I think change keeps us going and moving.  After awhile the same thing over and over makes you sick.  Most people stay unhappy because the are scared of change.  People have to remember that you never know whats going to happen, so try to be happy and not be so scared of change, you might just like it.

Very true. I mean if I looked back at my life and never changed since grade school, what would my life me like? What would I be like?

I think a lot of us would look at some of the folks we dated over the years, or jobs we had or things we didn't want to 'grow past', and say 'why on Earth did I want to keep that in my life? I'm so much better for it's absence".

Change can certainly be painful, but sometimes pain is necessary for growth. Sometimes it is the worst pain that actually causes the most growth.
I think most human beings tend to be naturally lazy. We get comfortable..complacent, and wouldn't change our circumstances if it wasn't to avoid pain. *chuckles*

I think of the Goddess Kali, who is feared by many because they see her as being fierce. She is in a way, but she also cuts away the dead wood in our lives so that we may grow in a more healthy way.
The same with the Goddess Oya, who is the wind of change (among other things).

We are constantly being reborn and birth is often a very painful thing.
