Batman - The Dark Knight

Ok, so as an avid Batman fan I was wondering about how everyone is feeling about this new movie?
I am extremely excited I cannot wait, I have a date night planned with Joe, a babysitter and everything! The only thing I can do without is the shameless abundance of advertisements..
So is anyone as excited as I am? Or not at all? Opinions?

I've never been a big fan of comic book heroes. Just something I never got into. I usually don't watch Batman movies all that much either, unless they are on tv and there's nothing else on. However, because this was one of Heath Ledger's last movies, I will definitely be seeing it. I don't know if it will be in the theater that I see it, but I know when it comes out on DVD or Blu-ray, I will be picking it up.

Today I heard talk on tv about awarding Heath Ledger the Oscar posthumously for his role in that movie.

I can't really do theaters because of the over abundance of emotion from the crowd, but I'll be picking up the DVD.

There's definitely some buzz around his portrayal of the Joker. I've also heard about him possibly winning the Oscar or at least being nominated.

Batman Begins was a great movie. I also like the first 2 Batman movies with Michael Keaton as Batman, didn't care for the others.
It was rumored that this is Heath Ledger's greatest work ever.

I saw it last night (midnight)
It was so amazing!! But I couldn't stop feeling sad about Heath. However, no one could have done a better job imitating Jack Nickelson doing the Joker. It IS Heath's greatest work- EVER- the whole movie I regarded as a tribute to him. The rest of the movie was just as thrilling. The twists! The turns!
GO SEE IT!!! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

A friend of mine saw it Friday night and she's like me, she really doesn't care for super hero or comic book movies. But she said, it was a great movie! She really recommended that I go see it and she said, that Heath was very very good in the movie.

I saw it on Friday, it was amazing lines everywhere, sold out everywhere in this area until Tuesday. I felt like a child again. Very great movie.
But I do not feel as though Heath Ledger was imitating Jack Nicholson, he did in certain aspects. But it was his own twist all together. This Joker is much more maniacal, and evil. He gets his own hands dirty, no parades, no "plans"
. I saw a few children leaving during the movie because they were so terrified. This Joker, is more along the lines of the comic book series. Where as the other was Tim Burtons vision. They both are classics in their own way.
All in all, AJSHUJSDGASTYTGYUHJJH&T&*TGBGJHB!!!!!! It was AMAZING!
EDIT: HOLY BOX OFFICE SALES BATMAN!

There is a sad note though. Lots of people feel Heath Ledger should get an Oscar for his performance, but the catch is, the Academy doesn't award dead people. This situation has happened before.

I got a question and I want everyone's opinion.
As you know, there was and still is, a lot of talk about Heath Ledger and his role as the joker. A lot of people are saying that the movie and the role were just too dark and drove him to madness and eventually his suicide.
Now today on the news, Christian Bale is being looked at on assult charges. I was watching Fox News at the school and some of the things they were saying made no sense about it at all.
Anyway my question is...
Do you think being in this movie really had an effect on the two? Or would you just say coincidence?

I don't think the movie has anything to do with either. I believe Heath unfortunately had other issues in his life. And the Christian Bale thing just sounds off to me. The charges were filed by his mother and sister.

Yea, but you can tell by his body language during his most recent interviews something is different about him..
I'm not saying it's the movie either though just to make that clear.

I really don't know. The first thing I thought about Bale being arrested was that is was great publicity for the movie.
Ever notice how many stars get in trouble right when their movies come out?
Maybe I'm just cynical, but bad publicity is still publicity.
As far as Heath, many people say they saw him on a course of self destruction long before the movie. *shrugs*

Yes, but I see him as one who actually respects the art and wouldn't risk his integrity for such things. I mean, have you guys seen the Machinest! Who ever can pull off that role I respect.

I agree with Bobby and last I heard it wasn't "suicide" it was an accidental death. There is a difference. The cast of the movie have been asked this question in so many interviews, they all said when Ledger wasn't in character, he was a very fun and charming person. Doesn't sound like someone who got lost in a role to me. And Bale, has been released on bail and denies all charges. Here's the latest on that:

I agree with the publicity. Actors do have a tendency to get into trouble right before an opening.
About Heath, yes it was announced a few months back that his death wasn't intentional, it was accidental.
On Christian Bale, the stories they are presenting make no sense. He assaulted his mom and sister, turned himself in, and then was released on bail but no charges were filled. This is what was said on the news down here and it contradicts other articles written about him. Somehow the story got screwed up on the news here.
Anyway I personally don't think the movie had anything to do with. Seems you just can't escape this topic and it made for some good discussion.

I couldn't agree more.
The movie was great! I really enjoyed it, Heath Ledger's role as the joker was just amazing. Even though the movie was pretty long, it had your attention all through out it.

"Official: Olsen seeks immunity in Ledger probe
By TOM HAYS, Associated Press Writer 41 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Federal investigators want to question Mary-Kate Olsen about how Heath Ledger got two powerful painkillers that contributed to his accidental overdose death, but she's refusing to talk without immunity, a law enforcement official said Monday.
Olsen's lawyer has twice refused requests for her to speak with investigators, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing. The lawyer, Michael C. Miller, said the "Full House" actress has nothing to do with the drugs, and has already told the government everything she knows.
"We have provided the government with relevant information including facts in the chronology of events surrounding Mr. Ledger's death," Miller said in a statement Monday, "and the fact that Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed."
The official confirmed a report that Olsen wants a promise of immunity from prosecution before speaking to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Olsen was a close friend of Ledger's, and was the first person called by a masseuse who found the 28-year-old "Dark Knight" actor's lifeless body in his Manhattan apartment.
Authorities have obtained a subpoena that could force Olsen to appear before a grand jury if negotiations with her lawyer fail, the official said. Other potential witnesses all have answered questions voluntarily, including doctors, Ledger's ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams and anyone who was in his apartment around the time of his death, the official added.
DEA investigators suspect the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone found in Ledger's system were obtained with phony prescriptions or other illegal means, the official said. Oxycodone is sold as OxyContin; and hydrocodone as Vicodin.
The other drugs, including anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills, were prescribed legally by doctors in California and Texas, the official said.
The medical examiner's office wouldn't say what concentrations of each drug was found, but made clear he was killed by the combination — not an excess of any one drug in particular. It's common for the DEA to investigate an overdose death with so many different drugs involved, spokesman Garrison Courtney said last month.
The DEA's New York office declined comment on the stalemate with Olsen, which was first reported Monday by the New York Post. There was no immediate response to a message left with a spokeswoman for Olsen.
The masseuse discovered Ledger's body on Jan. 22. Police say she spent nine minutes making three calls to Olsen before dialing 911 for help, then called the actress a fourth time after paramedics arrived. At some point during the flurry of frantic calls, Olsen, who was in California, summoned her personal security guards to the apartment to help, police said.
Shortly after the Australian-born actor's death, Olsen issued a statement that read: "Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss."

I haven't been here in a while it seems...
I seen it opening night the third showing at the local theaters. Every show was booked solid. We arrived to wait in line one hour 15 minutes early and we still didn't get good seats... -_-
Anyway back to my opinions of the matter, I personally found the movie enthralling very dark almost artsy in a way. However the villain over shadowed the hero by leaps and bounds. Over all I enjoyed it, to me it wasn't worth the hassle of getting tickets early and waiting in line so long.
Over all I give it an 8 out of 10, very good rating for me because I usually give movies 4 or 5...
