Hello all!  Smiley
Just wondering what your opinion is on this.
I've heard many call themselves Pagan, but I have not heard any in depth explanations.

I'm guessing many have their own definition on what a true pagan is and what those characteristics are. In my opinion, in the simplest terms, a true pagan is someone who follows a nature based religion and many pagans are polytheistic, meaning they worship more than one deity.

That's what I thought. But I wasn't sure if there was a specific definition or not.

I agree. I associate the word Pagan with more nature based beliefs. I feel it is basically an umbrella term that covers many religions.
I believe the word originally meant country dweller, didn't it?

Hmm... so then how did that branch to the ideal's of one who follows naturalistic beliefs? Perhaps it has to deal with Country..... it could be translated that way right?

I believe it has to do with the fact that during early Christianisation, most people in the country side of Europe were still followers of the old ways, while people in the big cities has already embraced the Christian faith. If I'm not mistaken, it was also used as an insult to these people, much in the way as farmers and people from small agricultural communities nowadays are called pumpkins or yokels. lol
