I see this question popping up on a lot of forums, so I was interested to hear everyone's personal definitions on here.

Here's mine:

Magick begins with 'acknowledging' a personal need ~ which may, or may not, involve some meditation beforehand. Once that need has been acknowledged, our energies must be focused on becoming more mindful, more aware, more in tune, of the energies, actions, coincidences and opportunites that occur in and around us ~ that relate to that need. We must recognise the 'clear' pattern in the chaos that is life, in order to find our intent. Once we've discovered that pattern and realised our intent, we must project our energies into making that intent come to fruition. We must not be afraid to take risks and act on our intuition. The signals are there. It's up to us to take advantage of them or not. If we miss the pattern and fail to act upon it, chances are, our magick will fail.

The universe is constantly providing us with signals, clues and opportunities, but all too often, we either miss, don't recognise, or choose to ignore them. There are those who do, and those who don't. Those who do, gain success...everytime.

Magic is a natural [not supernatural] process, which either comes 'naturally', or can be learned, in my opinion.  It's the science of psychology.

So, what do you think?

It's good you got up a few things I have been wondering about for sometime now. Let the truth be told.

I see magick as a maneuver that helps to alter reality in a way that can not necessarily be done or that is not being done by physical movements. I see it as a tool, and yet also as something obtained and used by will, energy and components of force and forethought that are reached on a different level of the psyche consciousness to make things happen or tap into things that are not so easily gained by insight alone...

To paraphrase Aleister Crowley:

"The art and science of shaping reality in accordance with will."

How do you personally go about this?  How do you make things happen?  See what I'm getting at? Smiley

*Nods* Yes, that is the basic concept of magic, but how do you personally define it?  How would you go about explaining it to someone else?  How do you manifest change?

It's like someone asking me "How do you define meditation?"

The standard definition would be:

"A ritual performed in order to reach inner peace and harmony."

But that would only be the concept, wouldn't it?  It wouldn't be the definition.

The definition would be something like:  You find yourself a quiet spot and get yourself comfortable.  Try to clear you mind of all earthly thoughts and concentrate on your breathing.  Visualise a place in your mind....

....and so on and so on.  You get the picture Wink

Magic is the ability to tap into universal energies, to altar or change physical reality, based on a person's intent.
