With the heightened senses commonly associated with vampires, there can sometimes be an overwhelming level of sensitivity to the energies emitted by those around us. When that time comes and there is no shield great enough, what measures do you take to cleanse yourself and what form of sanctuary do you seek for re-centering and balancing yourself?

I find I need to isolate and meditate. I meditate daily and find it to be very helpful.

For me, it is generally a cold dark place that helps, along with meditation and isolation. I need the cold as and added tool in order to cleanse myself from the overwhelming empathic or telepathic disturbance within when I am overcome with outside energies that can not be shielded from. I find that the most common place for this disturbance is found in a mall. Strange though, because some other places with large crowds don't bother me and I feed off the energy supply. However in a mall, if I am not in and out within an hour, I become overwhelmed.
It's like I'm allergic to mall energy or something, lol!

Well I am not vampiric but I do get a sense of overwhelming feelings when I am in public places. I pick up on peoples anger and distaste so I begin to come down and it is hard for me to come back. So I try not to go out unless I am needed to.

You could be empathic, or a sensitive.

Aside from staying well-fed, I find sleep to be the best medicine. I often don't get enough of it, so once in a while I just take a whole day, (or in my case night,) to simply sleep.

As much as the whole idea of sleeping in a coffin has nothing to do with real vampirism, I sometimes wonder if it might be beneficial. Just something to keep the world at bay for a while as I sleep and rebalance my energy. On my off days, it just sounds practical.  Roll Eyes

I have been informed that it is quite beneficial for just that reason alone. Sensory deprivation can be a boon sometimes!

Do you have specific questions?  If I don't know, I'm sure others will?

Empathic is the ability to feel other's emotions. Sometimes this can be overwhelming because an empath can have difficulty distinguishing whether the feelings are they're own or someone else's.

It can be a very difficult thing to live with, especially if you are flooded by negative emotions.
Some have difficulty going anywhere there are crowds because they cannot block the emotions and they feel all of those people's pain.

There are ways of "shielding" to help keep the empath from being overwhelmed.
A good site for learning very basic shielding is:
http://www.psionguild.org/pshield.html

To me a sensitive is someone with psychic ability. They "just know". They can be empathic as well, but are not necessarily.

You might wish to ask Bobby if that is what he meant by sensitive. I believe sometimes sensitives can feel spirits as well. Smiley

I hope that helps.

Yes that is exactly what I meant. And most of the sensitives I have ever heard of sense spirits. I believe some can also sense emotions.

I usually go outside away from people to clear my mind and spirit. I sit and take long deep breaths in through my nose and out through my mouth. I do this for at least five minutes.

Recently I’ve been pondering this very topic. Daily I take time to release my mind from the physical energetic burdens by some means of artistic release; whether it is dancing, photography, jewelry design, poetry, meditation, the key for me is to allow thought to flow freely and return to a normal, and sometimes even euphoric, state of mind.

When this isn’t possible, I have to find a more defensive way, as oppose to the other being an offensive means, of grounding myself. I am able to do this through shielding in a way that it is non-obstructive to others’ personalities and yet doesn’t isolate me from reality.

Are you at the begining, that you seek the end?

I run away however I have to, or care to, and find unoccupied shade at the very least.. preferably by plantlife, which is very 'tasty' to my senses, lol. Especially if I can hug a tree or something Cheesy that works great.

I still haven't gotten the hang of meditation. Things that I have to repeat, or are repeated exactly freak me out for some reason... can't process the two, or many in some cases.
