Well I just found out something really interesting! Apparently yesterday afternoon around 4:30 there was a tornado here in Des Moines where I live! EEK! Hmm..I knew nothing about it! A small tornado hit downtown Des Moines which is a little less then 5 miles north of me. And about 5 miles west of me, the winds were so strong that it blew out windows in cars sitting in a parking lot!

All we got here was rain. We didn't even have winds that would justify closing the windows, hell the winds barely blew here. I didn't even hear a tornado siren going off.  And all of this happened just 5 miles or less from my home! INSANE!!!

Edit: I just found out the tornado that hit in downtown Des Moines, the winds were around 110 MPH!!

That is amazing.  Your right the weather is getting more and more insane.  Normal summer temps for us is 30 (Celsius) something.  Every year I say to myself it can't get any hotter.  This summer we had a few days that got up to 50! Angry
I literally had to put my cats on Ice.  Frozen blocks.  It was unbearable, and I can only pray it does not get worse next summer.

I feel that with the Earth nearing the tilt on it's axis combined with the nearing solar alignment, the weather will continue to change.

Speaking of weather changes:

"Arctic Thaw Opens Northwest Passage

Korean Air to Fly Faster Polar Routes to U.S.
The so-called Northwest Passage (the yellow line in the photo), the shortest route linking Europe with Asia, has opened for the first time with the melting of Arctic ice (the green area in the center), the European Space Agency said on Friday.

Showing satellite images taken early this month, the ESA said that the Arctic ice had shrunk to the lowest level on record since the agency began satellite surveillance in 1978.

Photo released 14 September 2007 by the European Space Agency (ESA) shows an Envisat ASAR mosaic of images of the Arctic Ocean for early September 2007, clearly showing the most direct route of the Northwest Passage open (yellow line) and the Northeast passage only partially blocked (blue line). /AFP

"We have seen the ice-covered area drop to just around 3 million sq.km which is about 1 million sq.km less than the previous minima of 2005 and 2006," said Dr. Leif Toudal Pedersen of the Danish National Space Center.

"There has been a reduction of the ice cover over the last 10 years of about 100,000 sq.km per year on average, so a drop of 1 million sq.km in just one year is extreme," he said.

The Northwest Passage is a shipping lane that starts in the North Atlantic (the lower part of the yellow line), passes the Arctic Ocean of Canada and the coastal sea of Alaska (the upper part of the yellow line), and reaches the Pacific.

Using this route, ships could shorten voyages between the two land masses to a remarkable 16,000 km. Currently navigating from London to Tokyo means ships must travel a distance of 21,000 km to pass through the Suez Canal or 23,000 km to pass through the Panama Canal.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Passage (the blue line in the photo), which goes along the Siberian coast, is still partially closed, the ESA said.

"so a drop of 1 million sq.km in just one year is extreme" Yikes!! That is scary. I know that the Earth's climate changes in cycles, but....wow! EEK!

Here in Phoenix, we set a record this year. 29 days with temperatures of 110 degrees or more. (Farenheit, of course.) It would "cool" down at night to about 85 degrees. Ouch.

Well we had our first snowfall of this year, last Wednesday, we ended up with 4 to 5 inches of snow. Unfortunetly, I was too busy to get my camera out and take pictures, I did however get a chance to go out with my Beagle, Cassidy and play with her. She LOVES the snow, she jumps up and tries to catch it and when you shovel snow, she gets in front of the shovel so you will throw snow on her! lol The neighbors probably think I abuse her when they see a ton of snow being thrown at the dog, but she loves it!  This weekend, they are calling for quite a nasty storm here, freezing rain and snow! I can do without the freezing rain!!  Snowing Anyone else seen any white stuff yet?  snowflake or snow

We've luckily had no snow here year, it is actually quite mild. Problem is we don't have many snow falls here but when we do we often get it in feet rather than inches...
