From what I've seen you have to pick and choose and be careful what you read on the topic.  There seems to be more conspiracy theorists out there than scientists and those that try to mix science into their own theory's.  Some make more sense than others.  I'm a bit of a realist when it comes to "end of the world" stuff and tend to lean a little more toward science than anything else.  and there will be lots of opportunity to read up as the date draws ever nearer.  For now I'm still going to focus on what I love best, my job and my music.  What will be will be and there's no real point in getting all worked up about it.  I feel I am here for a reason and when my destiny is fulfilled then and only then will I move on.

Thanks, I am interested more on the scientific part of this as well as studying the whole alignment theory. I love Astronomy so this will be fun.
I agree we are all here for a purpose and it is up to us to figure out what it is and fulfill it. But we defiantly have to have a little fun at some point  Grin

On The History Channel on Thursday:
Decoding The Past
Episode: Mayan Doomsday Prophecy

The world is coming to an end on December 21, 2012! The ancient Maya made this stunning prediction more than 2,000 years ago. We'll peel back the layers of mystery and examine in detail how the Maya calculated the exact date of doomsday. Journey back to the ancient city of Chichen Itza, the hub of Maya civilization deep in the heart of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, to uncover the truth about this prophecy. The Maya were legendary astronomers and timekeepers--their calendar is more accurate than our own. By tracking the stars and planets they assigned great meaning to astronomical phenomena and made extraordinary predictions based on them--many of which have come true. Could their doomsday prophecy be one of them? In insightful interviews archaeologists, astrologers, and historians speculate on the meaning of the 2012 prophecy. Their answers are as intriguing as the questions.

Last night, I had the pleasure of watching, "Decoding the Past: Doomsday 2012: The End of Days".  This was the first time I had seen this episode though the series itself, 'Decoding the Past', is in reruns.  I must admit, it piqued my interest, so I started talking notes.

Now I admit that I was aware of the Mayan Calender ending in 2012, having taken an interest in the Mayan culture during the times I was doing amatuer studies in archeaology.    The  one book that I found on the subject at my local library at the time was at a master's degree level of college, and me and my 15 year old mind went forget this.

After watching this episode though, it brought that old interest back up.   The show mentioned ten different things that had predicted or possibly predicted the world's end or a world-changing event in the year 2012.    Ten different things.

They are the following:
~Mayan Calendar
~The Sybillian Prophecies
~The Delphi Oracle
~I Ching
~ Mother Shipton's Prophecies
~Merlin Prophecies
~Native American Prophecies from Black Elk of the Sioux and the Hopi Tribe
~ Web-BOT

I'm actually doing an amatuer study into this and posting the results on all of the blogs that I have...which is all of one livejournal and two Myspace.

I can post my findings if nobody minds.

Yeah I'd love to read the findings. I didn't watch the History Channel episode because someone brought in the dvd of it and we watched it over the summer at school.

I pretty much already have my mind made up on the whole deal, but, I'd love to read your findings.  You know what they say.....a closed mind is an empty mind.  At least thats what I say.  Feel free to quote me on that.  Wink

The year 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans were very accurate with their measurement of time. And at the end of their long count calendar a major change always happened with the world. December 21, 2012 is the very end of the Mayan calendar. It is believed that will be the end of the world. But it could just mark a significant change in the world, not it's destruction. The dawning of a new, more spiritual age.

Scientifically speaking it will be the occurence of a very rare solar/galactic alignment that only happens every 26,000 years. Our sun will be perfectly aligned with the center of the Milky Way galaxy. This alignment may have a great impact on the veil which separates our realm with the realms of paranormal entities. The thinning of this veil could be the cause for the increase in paranormal activity. Including sightings of U.F.O.s, happenings in the Bermuda Triangle, Bigfoot sightings, etc.

I have noticed a definite increase in paranormal activity. I have talked to others and many have said the same.
I have wondered what was going on to cause this. Interesting theory.
