This is just silly in my opinion the longer the strike goes on the more silly it becomes!
From what I've heard, this writer strike is about internet streaming of shows, that the writers get paid for when it originally airs on tv. Well that's not good enough, they want 2% of the streams from the internet. A lousy 2%! That's it! This strike is just stupid in my opinion!
And what was even more stupid, was the Golden Globes winner show they did! That had to be one of the stupidest things I've seen on tv.
Greedy idiots!  Angry

Typical. I suppose the only way they would get back to work in the first place,  is if they actually needed to work to support themselves and their families.  Undecided

Not like the writers are asking for much. And they are entitled to it. The writers don't get royalties from the sale of shows on DVD either. The greedy studios need to get over it already. We will be facing reality TV hell if this goes on.

Personally, I see it like this,
1. Hollywood in general is acting like a bunch of spoiled children, that goes for the studios as well as the writers. Give it up already!! It's a lousy 2%!

2. When those shows originally air, they are getting paid for them. Why should they get paid more when they have already been paid for their work? We're not talking about starving writers here.

3. Because of the greed of all parties involved we are going to be shown the muck of reality tv, or the national networks spewing out edited portions of shows that are on their premium movie channels, such as Showtime a CBS company whose going to be showing Dexter on CBS. Now, I haven't watched much of that show, but, for regular tv, my guess is it's going to be a terrible version of the show because of so much editing. Just like Sex and the City airing on TBS. Most of the show is cut out. Instead of getting a full half hour of Sex and the City, you get 15 minutes or 20 minutes and a million commericals.

4. All parties involved are getting hurt by this, the national networks, the studios, the fans, the actors and actresses.

EDITED: I just thought of something, don't the writers of these shows get paid when the episodes they have written are shown as re-runs? If so, what would be the difference between a DVD of a show or it being shown online?  The only thing that comes to my mind, if this is the case, is that the shows are just shown on different formats really. DVD and Internet.

#2 is only partially true. There are some writers making hundreds of thousands of dollars. But the average is around $60,000 a year. Depending on where they live it may not be much. And they deserve to make their money on royalties just as much as some studio executive who didn't actually have anything to do with the creation of the show except green lighting it. The greed is more on the part of the studio execs.

I should point out that I was referring to the big studios and writers who work on a weekly show. I also should say, that I agree to disagree and leave it at that.  Wink

I agree with you Mel. Not intended to come across as an argument hon. Just getting all of the facts I know out. And I'm sure being a former union rep makes me side toward the little guy. They need to sit down and hammer this out and get everyone back to work. People like commercial actors who don't have a lot of money are suffering from this. We are starting to suffer. The only good from this could be the opportunity for smaller channels to come up with something good and increase their audience. The less control the major studios and networks have over what we watch, the better it will be for everyone.

I have an idea.. how about turning the TV off and reading a good book?
