This is a topic that making it's rounds on various message boards, so I thought I'd add one here.

There's a saying that goes, "Keep your friends close and enemies closer."
Do you agree with this saying? Have you ever used this saying in your own life?
Please explain.

I've heard it plenty of times.
Makes sense though, you never know what those little demons are up to unless you have them chained to your leg Laughing

You always want to keep your friends close of course. Call them once in a while, see how they are doing, show you care. You never know when you might need their help spying on your enemy.

Damn my first response went into cyber space.  Ok here we go again.  I agree with this 100 percent.  Why you ask.  Well let me explain.  In my world we keep our sources of information on a very tight leash and very close.  By doing so we can get in good with the bad guys to determine their intentions, actions, habits, etc etc.  By the time they figure anything out it's too late, we not only have them but their friends, friends friends, friends of cousins twice removed etc etc etc.  Yes I'm being somewhat cryptic, but most here know what I do for a living, the rest can speculate.     Yup I'm a.........Plumber! I agree with the plumber  Tongue
I could not have said it better Raphael! I am a "have to know" kind of person. So my enemies might think they are my best friends only because I do not trust them as far as I can throw them. Keeping them near keeps me safe and gives me a heads up on whats happening.

OK, let me ask this then. If being close to your enemy is something that causes you some kind of discomfort,  then do you still think it's worth it to be that close to them?

I have no problem with it. I see it as a thing that has to be done and has no bad consequences. I don't go out of my way to hang out with them or even invite them into my house, I just associate kindly with them.

I think that would depend Melissa.  There are several variables that one would have to take into consideration.  The severity of the discomfort.  The threat that the individual may pose if left untethered etc.  If the threat outways the discomfort then it may be prudent to keep the individual within line of sight (metaphorically of course).  If the opposite is true, than than it becomes a personal decision. I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It's just something I've been thinking about lately in general. It's not related to the site or myself or anyone else on the site for that matter and if it came across that way, please know that was not my intent. It's just a question that came to mind today after reading something on another site. So, I thought I would bring it up here to see how you guys felt about it. Same goes for the Leader thread.

Please continue to respond. Smiley

No biggie Melissa. It's always fun to try and answer what I can. Especially if it helps someone out.
