After talking to a friend of mine last night, and after seeing the topic come up in one of the Yahoo Groups that I am a part of, I wondered how everyone here practiced their faith.

To give an example...  In Hinduism, there are the pujas (offerings/worship), and then the different types of yoga (karma [action], bhakti [selfless devotion], jnana [conditioning the mind], raja [roughly the yoga that everyone knows about], tantra [giving love and energy to God/dess], etc) to name a few methods of religious practice.   How much each individual devotee dedicates to all of this depends on the person.

For instance, during Navratri (The Nine Nights [Of the Goddess]), I just sacrificed eating dairy and eggs for that period to show sacrifice/offering (like a fasting) to Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Durga/Kali...and then focused on reviewing some of the texts and scriptures that I owned whenever I could; others might have revered this time with daily offerings of ghee [clarified butter] and sweets or even went as far as going to the nearest temple and attending group pujas.  Some might do even more during that time.

What does everyone do for their religion in terms of practice?  Be as elaborate as you want.  ^^  I will give more of what I tend to do as the posts come along.

Sincerely,

I was raised Catholic and consider myself Catholic but I don't go to church. The last time I went was a year ago for my Grandmother's funeral.

May sound silly but here it is: Right now, I will pray to God and the saints but I do it at home or in my car. I often have conversations with God and my Grandparents who are no longer here (I miss them!). There are also some religious programs on the radio that I will listen to. I don't do what you are supposed to during lent, Ash Wednesday etc....actually over the years I have forgotten alot of the things Catholics are 'supposed' to do.

Over the years I have been introduced to so many different religions, cultures and practices so it has gotten a little confusing to me as far as where I stand.

Many times, I will call upon my mother and ask her for her guidance in many things. Possibly similiar to what you do with your grandparents.

I do the same as well in my own little way, my Father always is able to help when I need it most; Or just drop in and spook me.   Laughing

As for Ash Wednesday, I always find it to be nice to see people being joined in their beliefs, and celebrating for one day (I do know it's part of Lent).
It's very humbling.
