This book is a fairly well put together collection of "old wives tales" type stuff.

The book is split up almost like an encyclopedia.

The topics range from  Amulets and Talismans,  Dance and  Holidays  to Knots, Mirrors and Weather Lore.

Example of the entries:
From the Kitchen and Household Chapter.   Page, 181.

" Building Materials~ It is considered bad luck to use wood brought down by lightening to build a home or barn.  To do so is thought to attract another such storm.  On the other hand, some people think just the opposite is true, because 'lightening never strikes twice.'
For magic, branches brought down by a storm make wonderful air or fire wands and staffs for casting the circle, or for use as a competent walking stick!  You can clean out the knots with a small hand knife, place the stones of your choice within, add a hand-grip and decorate to your hearts content."

I'll have to check this out. I love old wives tales, some of them are just so crazy. I heard one that, if a baby is teething, you can rub some whiskey on their gums to make the pain go away. I think today that would be considered child abuse Tongue

They used to use whiskey for a lot of things. Whiskey does numb pain in teething gums. My mom did that for mine.
She also gave me whiskey and honey for coughs. After all..the famous night time cold medicine is mostly alcohol.

My mother did the whisky thing too.  That might explain my affinity for well aged scotch.
