Has anyone tried reading Stephenie Meyer's (Twilight Saga) books yet? I'm looking for a good read. Or if anyone else has any good selections, other than Anne Rice and the such Smiley

I got interested immediately. I will try to get them. And she also told me that there will be a movie of it soon! Smiley

I've heard they're quite good. I haven't read one yet though.

I have book one and two. I loved them. They tend to be written more for teens but I still enjoyed them. I am currently reading Twilight which is book 3.

Here's some news on 'Twilight' that I thought you guys might like:

'Twilight': Inside the First Stephenie Meyer Movie
On a March day in Oregon, the sun's as bright as a California morning. That's great news for the locals, but it sucks if you're a vampire. For two weeks, Twilight, the $37 million film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel, has been shooting outside Portland — a location chosen, in part, because the skies are often overcast. Vampires, in Meyer's universe, can go out during the day but have to stay out of direct sunlight. Hence, today's problem. Director Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown) has had to scrap an exterior shoot, and, because tomorrow's weather looks annoyingly cheery too, she's been forced to rush into an intense romantic scene between her two young stars. ''We were building a bedroom in 24 hours,'' Hardwicke says later. ''We were just sweating it.''

Fans have been sweating it too. Not since Harry Potter has a book-to-film journey inspired so much enthusiasm — or so much anxiety. The movie will follow the novel closely: Pretty but awkward 17-year-old Bella (Kristen Stewart) moves to a small town in the Pacific Northwest and falls in love with Edward (Robert Pattinson), a heartbreakingly beautiful vampire. Edward also falls for Bella, but his desire for her barely controls his instinct to devour her. It's this combination of passion and danger, of course, that surrounds this teen romance with a halo of epic, doomed love. The girls who have gone crazy for the book have been vivisecting the film's development online. Two girls from the Make-A-Wish Foundation even requested roles as extras. ''You can't make this up,'' Hardwicke says. With a fan base like that, all of Hollywood should have been jousting for the film rights. In fact, the movie almost didn't happen.

In April 2004, Paramount's MTV Films optioned Twilight, but then developed a script that bore little resemblance to it. (It featured night-vision goggles and transformed Bella into a hip track star.) ''They could have put that movie out, called it something else, and no one would have known it was Twilight,'' Meyer says. Fortunately for devout fans of the book, Paramount put the project into turnaround. Then, in 2006, Erik Feig, president of production at Summit Entertainment, tried to make a deal with Meyer. The author had been burned before and resisted. Feig drew up a contract, guaranteeing the writer that the film would be true to her vision, including a promise that ''no vampire character will be depicted with canine or incisor teeth longer or more pronounced than may be found in human beings.'' That did the trick.

Twilight, which will hit theaters on Dec. 12, is no garlic-and-fangs monster tale. It's more Buffy than Nosferatu. Hardwicke, who made her directorial debut with the raw indie hit Thirteen, seemed an ideal match for the material. ''When I read the book, I could almost feel Bella breathing,'' Hardwicke says. She hammered out a script with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (Step Up) in six weeks, then faced the daunting task of casting. The wrong choice would throw Twilighters into a tizzy. Hardwicke also wanted to cast an actual teenager to play Bella, which meant finding a teen who could convey Bella's emotional depth and carry an entire film.

Thank you everyone for your input. I see her books under the "Best Seller" category everywhere I go, but it wasn't until I saw them in the Teen section at Barnes and Noble, that I started to wonder if the book would appeal to me as an adult. I'm 28 you know!  Tongue

I still haven't had a chance to just go and sit down at the store and read a little yet.

Hi there Smiley I will admit it, I am totally enamored by those books. I cannot put them down. I'm on the third one now, impatiently awaiting the release of Breaking Dawn, the final and fourth installment. I wasn't really all that interested at first, but after the first few pages I couldn't put it down. I read the first book Twilight in 2 days, the second book new Moon in 3 days, and now I'm on Eclipse which I've been reading for about 3 days. I'm trying to slow down a little so that I won't have to await the 4th book's release even more so than I already do by finishing Eclipse. But if you have any questions on the books feel free to ask me Smiley

This woman is seeming to pop up everywhere. When I was at the store yesterday I found a magazine with her Twilight saga on the cover. For some reason it irritated me, but I have yet to read anything of hers.. so I might just have to, being as I cannot get away from it.

Wow the trailer is just a tease! I think it will be a good movie but as always, nothing compares to the book.
Thanks for the info Mel! I tend to get a little behind on things when I work a lot.

Lol, no worries. I'm bonkers over it- I guess that makes me a teenager XD Hahaha.

By the by, for the advent readers: Breaking Dawn is an absolute MUST (which makes Meyer an even more awful person for dishing such astonishing material). Buy and read now. o_O.

She writes for a teenage crowd mainly, but a few adults here love the series. She has written a few books for a more adult crowd, I think one of the books is called "Host", I remember seeing it at Barnes and Noble.

I wasn't saying that the writing was for those who are younger than me, or that it was below me. Just simply that the wording was not for my taste, and neither was the story. But knowing that it was written for younger readers actually helps me wrap my head around it all. So thank you for telling me about that!
In the long run I just do not get into romance novels. No matter what the premise is. And to clarify that, I don't really feel the Vampire Chronicles to be a romance series. That is my interpretation alone though.  Smiley

As for the Host book Undead_elf, I will check it out. It does seem like she has talent and I look forward to a more mature novel. Thanks Wink

I have left some books unfinished because I didn't care for the writing itself. I recently did that.
I used to try and finish a book even if I disliked it, but I don't do that anymore.
I haven't tried this series.

I read it in four... only because I made myself stop and not obsess as much, haha. I completely blocked out everything for Eclipse and did finish it in 2. I almost skipped Jacob!! But read it anyway... 'course...

I haven't read Host either, but I'm really leaning toward buying it out of curiosity (which means I will definitely). And will report back when it's done as well ^^*.

The movie... I really hope it doesn't suck. I don't want to waste that much hate on someone just because they're less meticulous than my imagination lolol. I mean, in my opinion at least, the photos they put on the shirts they're selling right now look more like Buffy than good movie material. Just my opinion!!!

I just stumbled on this article about Stephanie's Books:
http://features.csmonitor.com/books/2008/08/28/that-vampire-book/

"That vampire book
By Marjorie Kehe | August 28, 2008 edition

I haven’t read it myself so I don’t have an opinion. But it’s been very interesting to take note some of the commentary on “Breaking Dawn,” the recently released finale of the Twilight series, the light-on-sex-and-violence four-book vampire series penned by stay-at-home Mormon mom Stephenie Meyer.

According to commentators, the book (and the three that precede it) is too racy, not racy enough, too Mormon, not Mormon enough, anti-feminist, emasculating, thrilling, dull, great literature, and total pulp.

Then, in what seems to me like the ultimate proof that some readers are seriously confusing the confines of a book with the outside world, a number of readers have apparently been demanding their money back. It seems they don’t like the ending. (See Publisher’s Weekly for Sara Nelson’s more solidly-based-in-reality take on this odd phenomenon.)

It’s enough to make one wonder who has the courage to become a bestselling author these days. With the ocean of opportunity to vent spleen and disappointment created by the blogosphere, writers have little choice but to continually go nose-to-nose with disgruntled readers. It’s hard for me to believe that such encounters necessarily energize creative people.

So I was glad to stumble on an online interview with Stephenie Meyer at entertainmentweekly.com. The thirty-something author and mom actually appeared quite calm in the midst of her book launch. Asked about some of the more intense reader criticism, she politely suggested that it may calm down with the passage of time.

Then she uttered words that other writers might want to print out and post inside their laptops. Her stories, she points out, “can’t be about what everyone else wants.”

“In the end,” she said, “it was about what I wanted to do and that had to be enough for me.” And in the end, it’s going to have to be enough for those disgruntled customers as well."

Returning the book because they didn't like the ending??? I just don't understand how anyone can do that. *shakes head*

'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer Puts 'Midnight Sun' On Hold After Online Leak
Meyer decides to post unfinished draft online, but is too upset to continue writing it.

By Sabrina Rojas Weiss
After the release of "Breaking Dawn" earlier this month, fans were left with just one more piece of Stephenie Meyer's vampire saga to look forward to: "Midnight Sun," the "Twilight" story told from the perspective of Edward. But the hope of seeing more of those iconic red-white-and-black covers in stores may have been dashed this week, due to an online leak of the unfinished novel. On StephenieMeyer.com, the author announced that the incident has been so upsetting, she is putting the book on hold indefinitely.

"I have a good idea of how the leak happened, as there were very few copies of 'Midnight Sun' that left my possession, and each was unique," Meyer says in the post, adding that she believes the individual she gave this copy to had "no malicious intent with the initial distribution."

After an explanation of how the leak violates her copyright, Meyer breaks the sad news. "My first feeling was that there was no way to continue ['Midnight Sun']," she says. "Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write 'Midnight Sun' now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on 'Midnight Sun,' and so it is on hold indefinitely."

But there is a tiny silver lining for fans. Rather than reward whoever leaked the draft, Meyer decided to post it on her own site. "This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest," she reasons. "I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the 'Twilight' story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place."

And though she says "the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes," the PDF file contains 264 pages of Forks through Edward's eyes.

The novel was originally meant to be just a writing exercise for Meyer. And the author seemed a bit fed up with some Twilighters' obsessive, critical nature after the release of "Breaking Dawn."

"For all intents and purposes, 'Breaking Dawn' is the last book," she told MTV News. "It might easily happen that I quit here. There'd be a lot of good reasons for doing that, so I don't know if we need to get into all the future possibilities and speculations, 'cause I'll just go crazy, and I'm so close already!"

Interestingly, Meyer's reaction is very similar to J.K. Rowling's testimony during her case against the creators of "The Harry Potter Lexicon" in April (sorry, we know you guys hate these comparisons). "This trial has decimated my creative work over the last month," she said. "You lose the [plot] threads and worry whether you'll be able to pick them up again. Should my fans be flooded with a surfeit of substandard books — so-called lexicons — I'm not sure I'd have the will or heart to continue."

Is there a chance that Meyer will change her mind after a break from the Cullen universe? We'll wait and see. For now, Meyer says she's going to concentrate on spending time with her family and other writing projects, including the treatment for a Jack's Mannequin music video.
