When I find time to sit down and read I always feel drawn to reading some good vampire fiction, and I'm always on the hunt for more. I've read all of Anne Rice and towards the end I felt she kinda steared off path, so I'm wanting to know who are some of your favorite vampire novelists or authors? Or books or series you would recommend? I'm in need of new reading material.  Grin

That depends on what you like in a vampire book.  In the genre of supernatural romance or vampire romance there are a lot of great serieses, if you like that type (which I do).  They're very different from Anne Rice.  I would strongly recommend Christine Feehan's "Dark" series, and while you don't HAVE to read those in order, I would recommend you do, because little things in the books are clearer if you do.  One recommended to me a lot are Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter" novels.  It says she's a hunter, but she ends up with at least one as a romantic interest in the long run from what I've seen reading the blurbs about each book.  I haven't had a chance to read those yet, but I have all of them in ebook form.  They do have somewhat graphic (not gross graphic, but strong romance novel graphic) love scenes, so if you don't like that kind of thing you might not like these, but if you do, they're really good.  Smiley

Incidentally Laurell K. Hamilton's "Merry Gentry" series is another good supernatural romance type, but not vampire.

Hmm...who else... Tanya Huff's "Blood Books" that the new series "Blood Ties" is based on is a good series so far, I've read the first two of five (there are short stories too in a 6th volume).  Less romance in these, there still is some, but if you want something with less romance these are more like what you'd want, I think, but they're not solely about the vampire, he's just an integral character.

OH, and Katie McAlister writes vampire romance as well that I've enjoyed.  Not as heavy and serious as Feehan's, Katie's are written in more of a lighthearted style.  She has "Aisling Grey, Guardian" novels as well, and there's a bit of crossover between the two serieses, but you don't have to read the "Guardian" novels to enjoy her "Dark Ones" novels.

There's another I'm thinking of...I've only read one so far, called "Love Bites" but I've seen others by her I just haven't bought yet...let me check my bookcase here.... Lynsay Sands!  That's the one....and another I've read two by so far that weren't bad, Amanda Ashley.  She has a whole series too, but I haven't found them all yet.

Ok, reading this over I've come to the conclusion that I read WAAAAY too much!  lol  Probably the seven bookshelves double rowed with books could be considered an indicator too.  Smiley  Anyway, Christine Feehan is easily my favorite of all of these, they're a good combo of story, suspense, hot romance, and each book leads well into the next, and the suspense really starts to build when you get towards the last two or three books (not including Dark Celebration, the very last so far, it's kind of a special christmas thing that lays off the suspense a bit and gets a bit funnier, but still has some important setups for future books and some bits of seriousness.)  (oh, and including the three books that have short stories from the series in them, there are 16 books to this series so far, and I can't WAIT for the next!)

I am fond of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books. I just find them a lot of fun.

Anita Blake starts out as a vampire executioner, and ends up getting involved with both a Were and a Master Vampire. She is also one tough girl...lol

Just be aware that they contain a good amount of sex, so if that bothers you don't buy them.! Wink

OH!!  I must have written that first recommendation message before discovering my new obsession.... JR Ward!!   Grin  She has out the very best and most addictive vampire series I've ever found, "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" series... there are four out right now, with a fifth coming out in ten days, and all of the people I've met who have read her books are totally addicted, so I'd highly recommend them!  It's a brotherhood of vamp warriors who protect their race from an evil society, and it's great for both the romance and for the battles, the characters are so real, it's just really well written.  She has a site too if you want to check into it more, she gives character overviews and that kind of thing.  JRWard.com   I'm so bad about this series that I can't even read another book right now because I'm in so much suspense over the new book about to be out...lol....

1. Dark Lover
2. Lover Eternal
3. Lover Awakened
4. Lover Revealed
5. Lover Unbound (coming Sept 25)
6. Lover Enshrined (coming April 1, 2008)

                      Later,
                           Mur the obsessed...lol...

I absolutely love Christine Feehan! And I highly recommend Sherrilyn Kennyon's Dark Hunter series. True, they're not exactly real vamps. But they're still the hottest things with fangs I've seen in awhile!! Nina Bangs is another good one if you like alot of sexual humor and innuendo in your romances.

I've heard a lot of people recommend the Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunters, I keep meaning to get those... (oh, and update on the last JR Ward, the due date on that is now June 3rd instead of April)

I love what turned out to be the case with Mary Ann in the recent new Christine Feehan, and I can't wait to hear Dimitri's story, and Dominic!  Those are the two I'm most curious about now.  Smiley

Another new one I've just discovered... Jenna Black.  She has a vamp series and a demon hunter or exorcist or something like that.  I just got them and have only started the first vamp book and I like it so far.  Another I found since I wrote that first message... Lara Adrian.  Hers are a warrior vamp enclave like the Black Dagger Brotherhood ones I already wrote about and very good, though not near the "so good I obsess on the series" level of the BDB.  Smiley

Thanks for recommending the Anita Blake books. I found a few at the local thrift store today and will save them for summer reading.
