V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped is the latest release in author G.L. Giles’s Vampire Saga

Though V3 is the third book in this Vampire Series, all readers can jump right in with this book because it’s a revamped version of the first two books.

This alternative history novel tells the intriguing story of Augusta Lee Legare Middleton. She’s nicknamed Vladina in derision after Vlad the Impaler. Vladina’s snobby South of Broad Charlestonian vampyre family didn’t consider Vlad the Impaler or his father Vlad Dracul real vampires, for they weren’t blood-suckers with superior physical and mental strength. They were still historically-speaking human. Many have admired Vlad the Impaler for his military tactics, even though they were sadistic and gruesome, but that doesn’t impress Vladina’s family. Nobody is good enough unless they are emerged undead of 100% pure vampyre blood. Vladina is ostracized as a small fledgling vampyress when she exposes a festering family secret. Vampyre/Vampire hierarchy is exposed as are religious conflicts with much of the action taking place at an annual Fair yet culminating in a graveyard in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

Furthermore, this work of speculative fiction also follows the historical timeline accurately as it brings into play the fantasy element as seen in the explanation for why the Union submarine, the Alligator, may still be missing. It’s the headquarters of Giles’s Water Vampires (also known as DeVillerois’s Vamps), who are a result of the breeding of vampyres with sirens centuries ago. They don’t want one of their mini-headquarters, the Alligator, found. The Water Vampires still lament the fact that the H.L. Hunley was found.

Then there’s a steamy paranormal romance subplot that really spices up the storyline. It’s between one of Giles’s Puberty-Turned-Vampires and one of Giles’s Made Vampires. Humans take note!! Giles also utilizes foils as seen in the brother/sister duo of Ernesto and Julia, who are seemingly close but have a relationship built on lies, contrasted with the estranged brother/sister duo of Kerry and Gia, who really have more true sibling love as is revealed in Gia’s ultimate self-sacrificing act. Moreover, vampyre familial corruption, politics, religious conflicts and quantum mechanical ideas are also uncovered in the plot, but the storyline is not without comic relief in the form of ridiculous characters that contradict themselves and dark humor frequently via wordplay.
